Malpractice Suit Filed Against Hospital for Woman’s Fatal Infection

A lawsuit accuses Memorial Hospital Jacksonville of letting a 74-year-old woman, Theressa Cabe die of an infection she caught from a needle during a hospital stay last December.

The suit claims her infection “spawned from drug-resistant staph, commonly called MRSA, [the plaintiff] picked up at the hospital.”

Cabe complained of pain from an intravenous device and died a few days later, of sepsis, a condition in which, the bloodstream is overwhelmed by bacteria.

The suit is seeking monetary damages to cover medical, funeral and legal expenses.

No more hand-held devices for Nevada drivers – It’s the law starting October 1, 2011

Gov. Brian Sandoval signed Senate Bill 140 today, the bill that prohibits drivers from texting or using hand-held cell phones.

This is a big step to discourage Distracted Driving in Nevada as we all know that this is the most common cause of most motor vehicle accidents today.

This law will be effective Oct. 1, 2011. However, for the first three months only warnings will be issued. Then in 2012, officers will begin citing drivers who ignore the law.

The penalties are $50 for the first offense, $100 for the second and $250 for the third and subsequent offenses.

This law will particularly help in decreasing the number of tragic and unfortunate accidents caused by distractions like constant texting or talking on cell phones while driving especially among teenagers.

For more information on the Bill, check it out here: Senate Bill 140.

If you, or someone you know, have been in a motor-vehicle accident, there is a possibility that the other driver was distracted by using his or her cell phone. Experienced attorneys can help obtain records from cell phone companies to prove or disprove this. Contact us for your free case consultation at David Francis Law Firm.

Another Bicyclist killed in hit-and-run accident

Brynn Barton was headed south on a bicycle with a group of friends, along 700 East when she was hit and killed by a car the night of June 7, at 10 pm in Salt Lake City. She was fatally injured despite wearing a helmet. The driver who hit her, instead of stopping and helping her, just left her there in that state.

Barton, a 24 year old maternity nurse, was vivacious and compassionate. She had traveled to third-world countries to do humanitarian work.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Brynn Barton.

We want you to know that as a bicyclist you have certain rights. If a motorist causes you to go off the road, get a copy of their License plate and call the police. It’s not only when you’re hit that the negligent or reckless driver becomes liable. Respecting each other while sharing the road is not optional. It is a responsibility that comes with your choice or decision to drive on the road with everyone else.
